Alpine Slovenia

Welcome to the highest part of Slovenia – a place equally interesting for a visit all year round. From the breathtaking highs of the Alps to the pine forests, and glacial lakes, this region has spectacular unspoiled nature. Add to the list ski resorts, cultural heritage, and hearty cuisine, and it’s no wonder that during your stay you might feel like your head is in the clouds.

Just an hour’s drive from Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana, lies the Julian Alps – Slovenia’s highest mountain range. Its pride is Triglav National Park beloved among hikers and mountaineers. The lakes beneath Triglav are just breathtaking: Bohinj and Bled are the most famous ones. If you love skiing there is Pohorje Hills with well-equipped ski trails, while foodies should not miss the city of Maribor with its 400-year-old vine story.

Adventure seekers should follow the path northwest. The ringing of the cowbells and small, almost perfect villages – yes, it seems like the scenery of some movie. Stop by one of the households that welcome hikers and have a homemade meal. Try cottage cheese, filling buckwheat porridge, or pork cracklings while toasting with kosutnik (local schnapps). Sitting by the fire pit will make you forget about everything else and just be present, while time seems like it stands still.
